Short answer
Andorra is outside the EU and the European health card system. The EHIC and the UK GHIC are not valid there. The UK government advises travel and medical insurance. People insured in Spain, France or Portugal can use a bilateral form instead, requested before the trip. None of these options covers repatriation.

Why the card doesn't work
The EHIC is part of the EU's social security coordination rules. It works in the EU, the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Andorra belongs to none of them, so hospitals and doctors here don't accept it. The same goes for the UK GHIC.
If you are insured in Spain, France or Portugal
Andorra has bilateral agreements with its neighbours. The CASS covers immediately necessary care for people insured there, as long as they bring the right form.
| Where you are insured | Form | Who issues it |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | E/AND-11 | Spanish social security |
| France | SE130-04 | Your caisse d'assurance maladie |
| Portugal | P/AND3 | Portuguese social security |
Request the form before you travel. Without it, you pay as a private patient.
If you are insured anywhere else
British, Nordic, North American and other visitors have no agreement to rely on. The UK government's advice is to take comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Make sure the policy names Andorra and, if you ski or hike, includes those activities and mountain rescue. See ski insurance and mountain rescue.
Repatriation
Neither the bilateral forms nor the CASS pay to bring you home. Only a travel policy that includes repatriation does.
If you are moving here
Cover designed for visitors no longer makes sense once you live here. Read health insurance in Andorra to see whether you will be in the CASS or need a private policy.
